Clarice Lispector

Occasional Evenings: the Sound of Lispector — Music, Reading, and Conversation

BISR Central
68 Jay Street, #425
Brooklyn, NY 11201

Join us Friday, April 11th, for an evening of musical performance, readings, and live discussion in honor of two new works—one musical, one literary—related to the work of Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector: the release of vocalist Lacy Rose’s concept album Lispector and of essayist Katrina Dodson’s Covert Joy, a selection of her translations of Lispector’s short stories. Between performances by Rose and her backing band the Starling Quartet, Rose, Dodson, and BISR faculty Rebecca Ariel Porte will discuss the arts of composition and translation, Lispector’s aesthetics and legacy, and the enduring power of her writing.

The event is free to attend, with a suggested $10 donation. Copies of Covert Joy will be available for purchase, courtesy of Taylor & Co. Books. Beer, wine, seltzer, and snacks will be served. Please RSVP below.
