Occasional Evenings: One Year of Solitude—Franco Galvão in Concert
68 Jay Street, #308
Brooklyn, NY 11201
Living in quarantine, what else was award-winning composer Franco Galvão to do but pick up his guitar? The result is One Year of Solitude, a concert program for solo guitar that, as it charts the experiences and intimacies of isolation, exemplifies the subtleties and ecumenicism of Brazilian jazz guitar. Join us, Friday, October 7th, as we welcome Franco to the BISR Central “stage” for a performance of One Year of Solitude. Between songs, Franco and BISR faculty (and fellow Brazilian) Lygia Sabbag Fares and Jude Webre will discuss not only the meaning and making of One Year, but also the wider history, traditions, techniques, and rhythms of Brazilian music. How can we understand the globalized musical syntax—the mix of European and African musical matrices—that marks the Brazilian sound?
Beer, wine, seltzer, and snacks will be served. Attendance is free (with $10 suggested donation). Doors at 6:45, show begins at 7pm. Please RSVP below.
