Occasional Evenings: No Borders: Folk, Fusion, and Tradition — Ghost Peppers in Concert

Join us Friday, August 15th, at BISR Central for an evening of musical fusion with Ghost Peppers—a folk duo blending South Asian and American traditions, featuring vocalist and BISR faculty Amrita Ghosh and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Meehan, with guest tabla player Ritam Bhowmik. We’ll be celebrating the release of their new EP Red, an album that layers original Urdu, Hindi, and English lyrics over classical Indian ragas and beats borrowed from rock, reggae, and American roots music, including a smattering of cover songs from Bollywood bangers to Tagore songs and found sound from India-Pakistan solidarity rallies. After the performance, the duo will sit down with musician and fellow faculty Hannah Leffingwell and special guest Sara Kazmi for a wide-ranging conversation about the folk traditions and political contexts that animate this cultural mix.

The event is free to attend, with a suggested $10 donation. Beer, wine, seltzer, and snacks will be served. Please RSVP below.
