Occasional Evenings: Life Is Everywhere—Lucy Ives in Conversation
68 Jay Street, #308
Brooklyn, NY 11201
Join us Thursday, March 23rd, for a reading and discussion of Lucy Ives’s innovative, and inordinately capacious, latest novel Life Is Everywhere (Graywolf Press, 2022), an experimental grab-bag of forms which Percival Everett has described as “many books in one and yet one book.” What, formally speaking, can the novel as a genre possibly contain—bodies and feelings, institutions and systems, historical events, speculative alternatives, emails and utility bills? And what dare the novel demand of its readers, as co-constructors of diverse “realities”? Following the reading, Lucy will sit down with BISR’s Rebecca Ariel Porte, Sonia Werner, and Lauren K. Wolfe for a wide-ranging discussion of these questions, taking Lucy’s own recent reflections on the “weak” novel (read it in The Baffler!) as a catalyst.
The event is free to attend with a suggested $10 donation. Drinks, snacks, and seltzer will be served. Doors open at 6:45, and the reading will begin at 7pm. For those unable to make it out, we’ll also be streaming the event live to our Facebook page. In-person and online audiences, please RSVP below.
Life Is Everywhere is available for purchase here.
