Practical Criticism: Listening Party and Live Recording—Dark Side of the Moon
68 Jay Street, #308
Brooklyn, NY 11201
Join us Friday, November 4th, for a combo listening party and special live recording of Practical Criticism, the final episode of 2022! In a twist on the usual conceit (where the sonic object is a surprise), this time around we’re revealing the object in advance—Pink Floyd’s seminal concept album Dark Side of the Moon—and our collective listening experience will be the generator of surprise. After listening to the album in its (approximately 45 minute) entirety, Ajay and Rebecca will discuss, among other things, the idea of the concept album, Pink Floyd’s idiosyncratic musical evolution, Roger Waters’ anti-imperialist politics, Franz Schubert’s romantic Lieder, among other topics musicological, sociological and otherwise. Afterward, everyone is invited to stay, celebrate, and continue the discussion. Bring your questions, anecdotes, and chill fall vibes. The whole affair will also live-stream to our Facebook page, for Floyd fans far and wide!
Beer, wine, seltzer, and snacks will be served. Attendance is free (with $10 suggested donation). Doors open at 6:45, the listening session and live recording starts at 7pm. In-person and online audiences, please RSVP below.
