Selves and Others: a Portrait of Edward Said—a Screening and Panel Discussion
209 West Houston Street
New York, NY 10014
In 2002, a French film crew spent several weeks with Edward Said and his family. The result is Selves and Others, an intimate documentary that offers a glimpse at Said’s thought and daily life—and the interconnections between the two. On Friday, September 22nd, BISR and Film Forum will present a special screening, to be followed by a panel discussion featuring BISR’s Suzanne Schneider and guests Tareq Baconi and Moustafa Bayoumi. How, 24 years after the publication of Orientalism, did Said think about his work and legacy—and how, 20 years after his untimely death, do we continue to think with Said today?
You can purchase tickets via the Film Forum website. As a BISR student, alumnus, or friend, you’re eligible to purchase a specially discounted ticket: Simply enter the code BISR at the upper right-hand corner of the ticket purchase page and click “submit.” When you proceed to checkout, the per-ticket price will have dropped from $17 to $13.
