Sink: A Reading, Conversation, and Celebration with Joseph Earl Thomas
68 Jay Street, #308
Brooklyn, NY 11201
Join us Wednesday, February 22nd, for a reading and celebration of BISR faculty Joseph Earl Thomas’ acclaimed new coming-of-age memoir Sink. Relayed in a series of “exacting and fierce” vignettes, Sink is at once an experiment in the narrative possibilities of life-writing; an exploration, both lyrical and unflinching, of a childhood shaped by hunger, hostility, abuse, and the brutal norms of masculinity; and a story of escape and survival through imagination, fantasy, and videogame play. Joseph will be joined by fellow faculty Paige Sweet for a wide-ranging discussion of the book and the stakes, pleasures, and difficulties of its construction.
Held in partnership with Grand Central Publishing, the event is free to attend with a suggested $10 donation. Copies of Sink will be available to purchase courtesy of Books Are Magic bookstore and are also available for pre-order here. Beer, wine, seltzer, and snacks will be served. If you plan to attend, please RSVP below.
