Arti Mehta

Arti Mehta is a Lecturer at Howard University in Washington, D.C., who teaches Humanities courses following an ancient-to-modern arc with a focus on Black Classicism. She earned her PhD in Greek and Latin with a Sanskrit minor in India Studies from Indiana University; her dissertation examined fables from the Greek, Roman, Indic, and French traditions to explain how these tales generate cognitive awareness during crisis situations among all types of audiences. Recent presentations include the leadership roles of women in Sanskrit drama and epic, and the receptions of Indic philosophical and spiritual practices in West Asia and Europe. Dr. Mehta has taught at Indiana University, University of Miami, and New York University (Washington, D.C.); she currently serves as the Regional Director (Washington, D.C.) for the Classical Association of the Atlantic States and facilitates workshops on anti-racism.
