Dire States: A Live Podcast Recording and State of the Union Watch Party
21 A Clinton Street
New York, NY 10002
Join us January 30th, State of the Union day, for a live recording of the Podcast for Social Research, followed by a live stream of the State of the Union address!
Before Trump takes to Congress to deliver his first State of the Union, guests Sarah Jaffe (the Nation Institute) and Kazembe Balagun (Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung) and BISR’s Ajay Singh Chaudhary, Patrick Blanchfield, Samantha Hill, and Kali Handelman will take to the Caveat stage to discuss the state of the country and our politics as they actually are. What has changed and what hasn’t in the past year? In the era of the 24-hour news cycle, what stands out as significant, exceptional, or exemplary? What is the state of our union? All participants will present a picture of the past year and the present moment through specific stories, moments, and issues that stand out to them. We’ll invite the audience to pose questions and thoughts as well.
After the recording, we’ll live-stream Trump’s State of Union (it’s better to watch it with friends than alone). Once Trump’s through, join us for a probably necessary drink!
The recording starts at 7pm (though you’ll want to get there at least 30 minutes early). The event has a suggested donation of $8. Please RSVP below: we look forward to commiserating with you!
