Space is the Place: a Screening and Panel Discussion

Film Forum
209 West Houston Street
New York, NY 10014

In partnership with Film Forum and Carnegie Hall, BISR presents a special screening of Space is the Place (1974), Sun Ra’s controversial, thought-provoking, and musically dazzling vision of racial, social, and terrestrial transcendence. After the screening, BISR faculty Ajay Singh Chaudhary and Rebecca Ariel Porte will sit down with guest DJ Spooky to discuss the film’s context, Afrofuturist aesthetics, and complicated racial politics.

As a BISR student, alumnus, or friend, you’re eligible to purchase a specially discounted ticket: Simply enter the code BISR at the upper right-hand corner of the ticket purchase page and click “submit.” When you proceed to checkout, the per-ticket price will have dropped from $15 to $11.

Space is the Place: a Screening and Panel Discussion is being held in partnership with Carnegie Hall as part of Carnegie’s Afrofuturism festival, taking place February-April 2022. For more information and a list of festival programming, please visit Carnegie’s event page
