In Memoriam: Jeffrey Escoffier

We are grieved to share the news that Jeffrey Escoffier, a beloved BISR faculty member, passed away on Friday, May 20th. Jeffrey joined BISR in 2015 both as faculty and our research associate. Guiding students and faculty alike, he was a singular presence, someone whose extraordinary scholarly range—from psychoanalysis to studies of gender and sexuality, dance, and biopolitics—was matched by his remarkable career as a writer, editor, teacher, activist, and civil servant. He was also, as so many people can attest, a wonderful person—kind, generous, thoughtful, open. He is, and always will be, greatly missed. In the coming days and weeks, we will be sharing more about Jeffrey’s exceptional life and work, as well as details of a memorial event, where we hope you will join us to celebrate and remember Jeffrey and his work.
