We’re Hiring: Administrative Assistant (Full-Time)

Brooklyn Institute for Social Research, a non-profit teaching and research institute offering critical education in the humanities and social sciences, is hiring a full-time administrative assistant. The administrative assistant will work primarily with BISR’s Program Director and Operations Director on tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Liaising with commercial and institutional partners
  • Helping manage and maintain BISR’s social media properties
  • Managing BISR’s info@ email account and assisting interested and enrolled students with questions and requests
  • Helping manage BISR’s mailing lists and email systems
  • Devising and implementing advertisements
  • Assisting with course page design, particularly the selection of visual elements
  • Performing research tasks for both staff and core faculty as requested
  • Providing logistical support for BISR courses and events
  • Corresponding with and assisting faculty as needed and coordinating BISR’s second faculty
  • Working with the Operations Director on database management
  • Writing and editing, including possibly assisting with course description editing and the composition of weekly newsletters
  • Designing and distributing promotional material 
  • A/V production and editing, depending on knowledge level
  • Website maintenance, depending on knowledge level

Candidates should possess 1-2 years of work experience; excellent communication skills (written and oral); a strong eye for design; familiarity with critical issues in the humanities and social sciences; be well organized; and be committed to BISR’s mission of fostering critical education and inquiry in the public sphere. Knowledge of MS Office suite and Google Drive is required, and familiarity with HTML, CSS, Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, and A/V editing software is preferred. Salaried compensation is $38,000 per year, and the position includes benefits.
