10th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign
2022 marks Brooklyn Institute for Social Research’s 10-year anniversary! As part of our celebration of this milestone, BISR is launching a special 10th Anniversary Campaign to ensure our sustainability for the next ten years and beyond. There are lots of ways you can show your support, from taking a course to attending the 10th Anniversary Social or going “10 for 10” – signing up for a BISR membership at the $10/month level to help toast our first decade of operations.
BISR began operations in the winter of 2012 with a single course, “Politics of the City: Plato and Aristotle,” offered in the back room of a Brooklyn bar. Over the course of the last decade, we have built a unique, interdisciplinary curriculum of approximately 550 courses and expanded geographically to offer courses in Michigan, California, Kentucky, London, and Puerto Rico. In the age of Zoom we have built a truly global faculty and student body, stretching from Columbia to Singapore, Turkey, Mozambique, and China. Whether Plato or psychoanalysis, Aristotle or abolitionism, over 10,000 students have studied in BISR courses and thousands more have attended and participated in programs over the past decade. Our success attests not only to the popular desire for critical education beyond the traditional university, but to the dedication of our faculty and the generous support of so many people and organizations.
As we plan for our next decade, we ask you to consider supporting BISR by becoming a member or making a one-time donation. Our membership tiers come in all sizes (from $5/month on up) and are accompanied by an assortment of great perks – from beloved BISR merch to a subscription to specially added Late Light subscriptions and tickets to our 10th Anniversary Social. Your support enables us to, in no particular order: pay our programming and administrative staff a living wage; provide scholarships to over 10% of our students; organize dozens of free public events each year online and in-person; produce the Podcast for Social Research as well as free videos and other media; and support the scholarly work of our growing faculty (69 and counting!) amidst a time of crisis and contraction within the traditional world of higher education.
Your support is critical to ensuring BISR can continue to thrive in 2022 and beyond.
All the best,
BISR
